Dark Skies is an American sci-fi/drama television series which aired during the 1996-1997 season for 18 episodes plus a two-hour pilot episode. The success of The X-Files on the FOX Network proved there was an audience for genre shows, resulting in the NBC Network commissioning this proposed competitor following a pitch from producers Bryce Zabel and Brent Friedman. The series debuted September 21, 1996 on NBC, and was later rerun by the Sci-Fi channel. Its tagline was "History as we know it is a lie."

20th Century history as we know it is a lie. Aliens have been among us since the late 1940s, but a government cover-up has protected the public from such knowledge. As the series progresses, we follow John Loengard and Kim Sayers through the 1960s as they attempt to foil the plots of the alien Hive. The Hive is an alien race that planned to invade Earth through a manipulation of historical events and famous figures, including most notably the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. In addition, the pair must stay one step ahead of a covert government agency that has mixed motives, Majestic 12.

The show featured a number of real-life 1960's personalities in the plot, such as The Beatles, Robert Kennedy, Jim Morrison, and J Edgar Hoover. This show also has the distinction of introducing sci-fi fans to Jeri Ryan, just shortly before her Seven of Nine fame. Similar to Star Trek: Voyager, she played a regular character that was introduced in the middle of the show's run.

X-Files had a huge success, this led to create some other sci-fi Tv series. One of them is Dark Skies made by 18 episodes that were aired from 1996 to 1997 by NBC. The pilot episode was “Majestic-12” and was aired in September, 21, 1996. The idea of the whole series was “History as we know it is a lie”. The TV show explains that aliens were on the earth since ‘40s but government always made its best to keep this secret.

The main characters of the series are John Loengard and Kim Sayers that try to fight the alien Hive, a race of aliens that tries to change history. This humans and who knows them, are the only people able to know what was the history before it was changed by the aliens. There is also a government agency, the Majestic 12, who deals with the fighting of the aliens.

John and Kim work for their ideals, as John works with a senator, while Kim works with Jacqueline Kennedy. During the season, John will be aired by Frank Bach, the captain of the Majestic 12.

So in the series there are a lot of real events and persons as J.F.K. Kennedy and The Beatles. The creators of the series thought to cover with each season a group of years in order to cover all the time from ‘60s to 2001, but only the first season was really created.

Hives are described as multi-legged and spider-like beings that attack humans. They enter in their bodies from mouth, nose or ears to reach their brains. The infection can be divided in several stages named from Alpha to Delta. People with first stages of infection show mood swings and nervous breakdown as the alien is trying to take the control of the brain. Advanced stages of infection show that the person is no more live as his body is only the shell for the alien.

The “dark skies” are what is going to happens when aliens reached to control all the human beings and would have take control of the whole earth.
