The Transformers is an American animated television series depicting a war between giant robots who could transform into vehicles, animals, and other objects. Written and recorded in America, the series was animated in Japan and South Korea. The entire series was based upon the line of transforming toys originally created by Japanese toy manufacturer Takara, which were developed into the Transformers line by American company Hasbro.

Four million years ago, on a distant planet called Cybertron, life existed in the form of sentient robots which could think and feel, called Transformers. The race of Transformers was divided into two main clans. Autobots (known as Cybertrons in the Japanese cartoon), led by Optimus Prime, wished for peaceful co-existence. Decepticons (known as Destrons in the Japanese version), under the command of Megatron, sought conflict and universal conquest. Both sides were embroiled in an ages old war for supremacy.

The Transformers DVD complete series collection with all episodes and seasons on DVDs

The Transformers is an animated TV series that aired on Cartoon Network in December 2007. It was produced by Cartoon Network Studios with the help of Japanese Animation Studios. The series totals 3 seasons with an overall of 42 episodes. From 1984 until now eight U.S. Transformers series have been distributed and several made and distributed only in Japan. Of these eight, three were running on Cartoon Network Television, among which we can count the most recent series, which is made by Japanese studios Hakara, a traditional partner of Hasbro.

The Transformers series was inspired by a Japanese animation series called Microman. The Transformers cartoon depicts the battle between the autobots, represented by Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Prowl, Bulkhead and Allspark against their enemies, the Decepticons. The action takes place in Detroit, where the Autobots will confront both human supervillans and the Decepticons. It is the year 2050 and Detroit does not resemble much to its old self, but looks more like a city of the future, known as Motor City and then, as Robot City. Dr. Sari Sumdac’s eight year old girl will play an important role in the action of the animated series, as she is the main character saved by Autobots when they first visited Earth.

Cartoon Network in collaboration with toys manufacturers Hasbro want to produce another Transformers series. For the new project, CN wants to tackle a new direction. The robots will resemble more to superheroes, helping people in different situations, like some sort of super powered police. The Great War between the Autobots and Decepticons, the essence of the franchise started in 1984, will not have the same importance as before. The new series will have more humor and new characters. For now, the two companies plan to create a series of 26 episodes, each lasting half an hour, starting with a 90-minute premiere. Matt Youngberg (who also created "Teen Titans", "Batman") will oversee the series, Sam Register ("Ben 10", "Teen Titans") will be the executive producer, Derrick Wyatt ("Teen Titans") will design the characters, and Marty Isenberg ("X-Men", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles") is the main writer.
