Courage the cowardly dog DVD complete series collection with all episodes and seasons on DVDs
This series is an animated horror-comedy, that is just bizarre, created for the American Cartoon Network. It was created by John R. Dilworth and is an American television series. The story revolves around Courage the Cowardly Dog, the main character. The dog was like a human and was able to do strange things, for a dog. Courage lives with his owners in the town of Nowhere, Kansas. His owners, Muriel and Eustace Bagge, are retired and have a small house, on a farm, in town.
The series ran from 1999-2002 and was written from a short movie called "The Chicken from Outer Space" which had been nominated for an Academy Award. It was the last series written from the World Premier Toons, numbering six and the eighth series that also fell under the Cartoon Cartoons label.
The series is about a little pink dog who is afraid of everything, even his own shadow. His mother and father left him as a little puppy. Muriel and Eustace adopt him. Muriel and her husband couldn't be more different. She is Scottish and nice like a mother. Eustace is American, mean and constantly picks on Courage. Most of the time he chases Courage with a mask on that is bright green and bug eyed. Muriel and her husband are constantly into trouble with all kinds of scary monsters and situations, even aliens. Eustace is very greedy and that always gets them in trouble.
Production initially had a short seven minute cartoon, "The Chicken From Outer Space," which was premiered on one episode of the Cartoon's Network Premiere Toons in 1995. This show was a Hanna Barbera Cartoon. At that time Fred Seibert was president of the company and this showing of the short was the pilot for the series. Initially there was no talking in the pilot except for Courage having one line. With alien chickens and triple-headed chickens bent on revenge, poor Courage doesn't have a chance, and this is why this was nominated for a Academy Award.
Dilworth was given permission to let Hanna-Barbera finance the short and he could write the short series. Dilworth did production with his Stretch Film Studios. Stories were written by David Cohen, Irv Bauer, Craig Shemin, Lory Lazarus, Bill Marsili and Michelle Dilworth. The show ended up being the highest-rated premiere in Cartoon Network history.
